"This is the story of a smart man with many opportunities to succeed; who is demonized by his addiction to illegal drugs and sex. If the death of his girlfriend was as he reported it, then he was wrongfully convicted of first-degree murder. Fortunately, he turned his life around while incarcerated." -

Beaumont Watkins, former sheriff, Uvalde, TX

"It is a tough story. I am sad that Nate didn't find the right path earlier...but glad that he did in the end. Hopefully, the book will help people dealing with the same issues: guilt, drugs and loss of faith. It can be a good movie."  -

Rebecca Cardenas De Chapa, Monterrey, Mexico

"Insightful-riveting- well written, and a clear picture of a man with great potential succumbing to drugs and alcohol. The book portrays a man destroying not only his own life but that of anyone around him. It is a story of a real tragedy." - Sally Bertollo, Berwick, PA

"Nate is a man possessed. He believes that a demon from Hell controls him. If you believe that every human being is born with inherent goodness, you SHOULD READ this book. If you believe that each person chooses his own path and is responsible for those choices, you SHOULD READ this book. But mostly if you do not believe in redemption for the soul or you are not sure, Nate's story will convince you. Read this book!" -

Dorothy Straub, Mechanicsburg, PA

"I found this story to be distressing... right up to the uplifting conclusion. Nate Chapman was a despicable man who abused drugs and women throughout his life and had no respect for anyone, including himself. He wasted his life as a free man, but learned the error of his ways late. Lady Justice wears a blindfold as a sign of impartiality, but for Chapman, perhaps it symbolizes that justice delayed is still justice. Read the non-fiction page-turner and find out why."

Mark Elwood, Mexico, MO

"It's a graphic book about an evil life, but in the end I believe he completely changed. I think it should be a movie." -

Don Rovenolt, Watsontown, PA

"Considering all of Nathan Chapman’s entanglements with drugs, crime and women, his situation sometimes beckons sympathy for victims of bad environments. Refreshingly, though, Crawford’s honest portrayal of Chapman doesn’t preach through a paternalistic lens. Crawford doesn’t gloss over the gritty details of a hustler’s life, but he also doesn’t depict Chapman as some kind of martyr. Rather, Crawford ditches the social commentary and sticks to the truth. This book is not about race, poverty, crime, sex or drugs. It is about Nate Chapman. The reader gets to know Chapman through his frank inner-monologue that’s woven into the text. He often makes snarky remarks such as “Sure. The house is surrounded and all the cops want to do is talk.” Chapman also reveals more poignant elements of his personality when he reflects on “how little we know about ourselves, and what we do know is just enough to keep us in trouble.”  Possessed invites readers to know Chapman better than most of their friends. While Chapman’s truth is far from ideal, the realness of his life is more powerful than any kind of fiction."

This is a fun read especially if you are from Texas. The re-telling of the Texas Revolution was well stated, and having it mixed with a fiction story was fascinating.  It was fun to actually know some of the real people mentionjed in the book.

Even if you are not from Texas, the information about the two cannons and the Revolution was informative. I never expected this to be a murder story, but that just added to the mystery and fun of the fast-paced novel.

If you like a fun read, fast paced, page-turner this is your kind of book. The blend of history with current events torn from the front pages of the newspaper was was intriguing and well stated. It is recommended to all whether from Texas or not.
